This program has been selected on the basis of scientific merit of the proposal, but also the outcomes of interest for a better adaptation of EU regulations in the context of the Mediterranean regions.

Participants

Proposed and coordinated by the antenna ICALPE Corsica to the Mediterranean mountains, this international program brought together three teams. They conducted their work using a similar approach in three regions of the Mediterranean to the European Union, Corsica , Ridge and Liguria.

The three affected groups were organized as follows:

  • for Crete, The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, the administrative part, the University of Thessaloniki for the scientific,
  • for Liguria , University of Turin for the administrative and scientific.

Objectives

The overall project objective was twofold:

  1. provide a comparative analysis of the impact of Community measures for livestock on the evolution of farming systems and land use,
  2. experiment grazing systems best suited to these environments.

Working approach

The process of work of each group was divided into three parts:landuse2

  1. analysis essentially socio-economic development of farming systems, which will be conducted at the micro-regional
  2. analysis of the impact of changing farming systems on land use, making the link between socio-economic and agro-ecology, which will be conducted at local level,
  3. agro-pastoral experimentation itself, which will be conducted on several devices in each region, implemented and followed by a similar protocol.
The results will be used to provide elements of analysis and proposals for each region, but also for a comparative analysis between regions, in agreement with the Community dimension of this program.
