ALTRA ISOLA - "Routes of Identity" is part of the CIP INTERREG IIIA FR-IT "ISOLE", Corsica, Sardinia and Tuscany - (2000-2006)

 

BACKGROUND

"L'Altra Isola" was a local development initiative for the development of cultural and natural resources as essential for economic territories. Besides economic efficiency, social equity and environmental integrity, identity is the fourth pillar of sustainability. L'Altra Isola is part of the construction process of this fourth pillar.

Since 2006, the four partners in the project communities, the Community of Municipalities of Cap Corse (leader) and Costa Verde in Corsica, Community Mountain and the Agency for Tourism of the Tuscan Archipelago (Tuscany) and the 8 Commons of Coros-Figulinas, Sardinia, worked on the development of an innovative instrument to promote and develop cultural, social and economic development of territories.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • Enhance the advantages of both common and specific partners first for the people and new generations, and then to consolidate, especially in quantity and quality, offers discovery territories addressed to visitors.
  • Develop a "tool" of border development of local communities, based on a shared method for the development of local identity and borders: the "Route of identity"

 

METHODS

By "route of identity" means a framework instrument, which involves design work for all (strategy) supplemented by programming in time for its implementation (action plan) and the definition of a "manager".

This instrument, designed to strengthen the supply of a tourist destination by promoting the most distinctive elements of its natural heritage, cultural (including religious), historical (including archaeological) and landscape (in the sense of "heritage resulting from the combined action of man and nature "), consists of a series of material and cultural achievements.

 

A journey of identity is an organized set of actions that include:

  • documentation of the route: with the development of a literature database on identifying elements of the identity of a territory;
  • communication on the route;
structuring of the route, with the mesh of the territory and managed sites with the discovery of components of identity through single spots or network (routes elementary);
  • signaling the route;altraisola4
  • the organization of the itinerary, with the provision of services or equipment to facilitate the discovery of sites and notable features of the area's identity (eg guided tours or conventional audio tours, routes documented);
  • the animation of the route: the organization of initiatives and / or events to highlight certain elements of the identity of the area (fairs themes, periodic meetings, workshops ...;
  • promoting tourist route: with the creation and sale of integrated tourism products;
  • management of the route: the organization of the local partnership for managing the route of the area's identity, for the networking for this purpose players in the area concerned.
