Vegetatio

Vegetatio - Sustainable Management of vegetation within the Community Initiative Programme (CIP) INTERREG IIIA Italy-France "Islands - Isole - (2004-2008)

Objectives

The overall objective of the project "Vegetatio - Sustainable Management of vegetation" is to promote sustainable management of vegetation around the definition of preventive actions against fire, for the supervision of the territory.

This project combines Corsica , Tuscany and Sardinia them to develop cross-border cooperation.

Partnership

The partners in the project Vegetatio each of these three regions were, Sardinia The Councillorship to Defense Environment, represented by its Service "Protection of the soil" for Corsica The Board of Agriculture and Rural Development of Corsica (ODARC) of the Local Authority Corsica, and Tuscany , Province Livorno, represented by the Service Parks, protected areas and forests of his Area No. 7 "Guardianship of the environment."

The partners were strongly oriented towards the early common search for concrete solutions for the development of genuine active steps to prevent fires in the transboundary context, and the more specific of each region.

They agreed to consider the abandonment of territories is the major cause of degradation risks of vegetation by fires. The abandonment of the territories is in fact translated from poor management "of lands, which led in particular to an uncontrolled increase of fuel from their cover.

From this premise, the partners decided to confront together the solutions to the problem of land abandonment and their non-management.

Activities

The work involved three main areas of cooperation:

  • management of grass cover,
  • management of forest cover,
  • managing multi-purpose territories.

In each of these three areas, the partners have developed three basic types of action:

  • innovation actions,
  • demonstration actions,
  • communication actions.

The joint reflection on forest policy and rural development has served as a guideline to relocate all the shares in regional and transborder.
