There is no EU policy addressing specifically livestock grazing in the Mediterranean. But there exist a number of instruments having critical impacts on it. Within the Common agricultural policy they are principally relating to measures adopted for the Common market organisation and the less favoured areas.

There is a growing concern that existing EU policies have to be reviewed for better adaptation to the diverse European contexts, and to take better account of actual productions, as well as land and environmental care.
