The book provides an overview of main results obtained from “Learning sustainability”, an inter-regional cooperation project selected for support within the frame of the Recite II Programme of the European Commission, DG “Regional Policy”. The overall objective was to increase the capacities of the regions and partners involved, from Trentino (Italy), Lapland (Finland), Alentejo (Portugal), to face key challenges for the sustainable development of marginal areas. This includes out-migration of young generations from rural areas, mismanagement and loss of natural and cultural resources and difficulties for local SMEs to compete on the market.
