In 2009, following the intervention for the creation and assistance to the animation of the Mediterranean Network of Model Forests (RMFM), the International Model Forest Network (Canada) had proposed to ICALPE to assist in initiating and coordination component Maghreb "initiative for a network of model forests in Africa", launched by Canada.

A first place recognition task was completed successfully in May 2009. Mission diagnosis by Michel Dubost for Algeria took place between 15 and 22 October 2010, two documents are downloadable, only in french:
